Yesterday we took Maisy and Button to the Big fix mobile. I was worried Button would be pregnant and we would be too late. While I was waiting in line to pick them up the lady in front of me asked about her cat and they said she was but they took care of it. So I asked about Button. The nice lady looked and the paperwork and said nope. When I got home I was reading the paperwork which said about how old Button was, what kind of cat she was, and she was a male cat. What the what? Our girl cat is a freaking boy? According to the vet who fixed her she is. Good thing we didn't go with the name Princess like we thought about. Oh how dumb that lady must think I am.

RSL rules!!!! Nick Rimaldo (along with the rest of the team) did awesome two weeks in a row when it came down to the penalty kicks. After the first win two weeks ago Nic, my Nic found this shirt and thought it was awesome. The whole team did a great job this season and we had a blast watching them from our 2nd row seats (well not ours but some body seats) and also at home. Way to go REAL!

I guess technically I took some of these. Nic has been taking Alice's family pictures for years now (I love repeat customers) anyway her little girl is pretty shy and she was not loving Nic. I don't know why though because every other kids in the world does, he is a pretty lovable guy. Alicia said she would smile and look at the camera if I took the pictures so these fabulous pictures were taken by yours truly. Technically. Nic still did the settings on the camera, told them where and how to pose, told me where to stand, positioned the sun just right, and processed them on the computer when we were done BUT I did the actual clicking. Yeah me!

Nic took some pictures of his friend Mitch jumping out of a plane a couple of weeks ago. They were trying to beat a storm as you can tell with the white sky.

"Seniors are a blast and we love to celebrate their accomplishments with them. Senior sessions last about 2 hours and include as many locations and outfits as you can fit into that time. All senior sessions come with full-sized digital negative of all finished images (usually around 30) so that you can do with your images whatever you want"

My favorite thing about seniors is the custom one on one attention they receive from Nic. He will take them almost anywhere they want and he is up for anything. I love when he captures their style.

Keep in mind Nic's wife, Amber is posting pictures and these are my favorite and my not be Nic's. I will try to jazz it up in the future with better titles and better info but really it is mostly me bragging about my husbands skills.

I drive a lot--somewhere right around 158.6 miles per day. And while I drive, I tend to listen to AM radio every time that I forget my Ipod on the corner of my desk (read every other day). AM radio is all about politics and while I enjoy a good politician bashing now and then, today I started to wonder.

We watched President Obama's inagurual address today in class (read I watched President Obama's innaugural address today in class while my students slept), and I was pretty impressed. The guy can put on one heck of a speech, I'll give him that much. I found myself standing behind him as he spoke, wishing for a greater America, praying for a better world. Somethings got to change and this is the guy that we have to lead the change, so here's to hoping.

But...the AM pundits continue their bashing. What's the point? The democratic process has completed another cycle and now we should unite behind our chose leader. Become better people. Become a better nation. Shouldn't we?

Good luck Mr. President. I want to be a lot of things when I grow up, but President will never be one of them. Good luck President Obama. I'm with you man.

Poetry?

Given time and distance enough you can look back on yourself as a different person. Yesterday I looked back on a guy who studied poetry in college for 4 years. Strange, eh? Sounds a bit like a waste of time to me, but who am I to judge?

An interesting side-effect of moving is that I've had a chance to dig through boxes of memorabilia (read as "crap"), trying to decide what to keep and what to toss. Last night I came across a folder containing the poems that I wrote in college. I read through them and discovered something: I used to be a pretty decent poet. Did it do me any good to write poems for 4 years? I'll let you know in another 10.

I've decided to give some of these poems a second chance on this blog. Expose them once more to a potential audience of the whole world and an actual readership of...well about 3. Let me know what you think.

I'll start off with one that I believe is the truest that I've written. The names, places, objects, and events have all been changed to protect the innocent.

Compensating

It all comes down to the fact that I'm not great at anything.

Sneaking out behind the high school to have a smoke with Jim,
green-faced and weak-stomached, sucking in the cool.

Racing cars that we liked to think were fast down
Interstate 15 at 2 A.M.

Green-eyed blondes in short black skirts who say they are
my weakness,
but they have never seen my shoe collection.

Blue-eyed girls, brown-eyed girls, blue-eyed girls
and those other girls too.

The strut, that stupid swagger that chases me around
and trips me now and then.

A black leather jacket.

A quiet argument with my grey-haired dad
in his tie and spectacles and half-frown
and soft hands
and maybe just slightly wet eyes
and words.

So, I'm sitting here at work, and I'm smiling. Yeah, I'm kinda strange. I'm OK with that. I'm sitting here smiling, because Mirabel just called and said that she saw the baby on the Dr.'s TV. Mirabel's adorable, my pregnant wife is adorable, and I'm sure that thing on the TV that probably looked nothing like a baby is adorable as well. Life is good.

Roni Bridals

For the most part I love it when a bride comes to her bridals knowing exactly what and where she wants. The pictures usually have a more personal, meaningful touch that way. Once in a while, however, I also love it when a bride comes in and says, "whatever you want, Nic." Such was the case with Roni. I was especially glad this time, because there was an old truck in a field just a couple of blocks away from my house that I'd been eying for quite a while. The truck turned out just as beautiful as I imagined it would. Roni looked even better. I love the red in her dress. Definitely something different.

I read once that your IQ is a measure of how well you organize information in your head. I immediately dismissed that fact, reasoning that I was a fairly intelligent person, but was the least organized person that I knew. Although I have become arguably less intelligent over the years, I haven't become any less organized. I haven't become any more organized either, and that is what this rant is about.

My garage is a mess. My desk is a mess. My other desk is a mess. My other, other desk is a mess. But, I do know where everything is. If you need a screwdriver, there's one on the top left corner of the filing cabinet. If you need a screw, there's one in the second slot up and third from the left in the organizer (I use the term loosely) in the center draw of my desk. If you need my second period's last essay, they're near the top right corner of my work desk, right underneath last Friday's newspaper and a portable hard drive, but on top of the "Studio Photography" magazine from two months ago. It may look like a mess, but everything seems to be right where it should be according to me.

Am I happy about this? No. I want to be organized. I want everything to have it's own specific place where I can find it every single time that I need it. I've wanted this for a couple of years now. Wanting doesn't seem to be enough. Any suggestions?

We moved into our new house one week ago (thanks go out to all the slave labor that helped us move!), and after one week I have a few observations:

Light switches are never where you think they should be.
The things that you need are never in the box that you think that they should be in.
In fact, I'm still not sure if the things that I need even made it into a box.
Packing is much easier than unpacking.
Putting things together (beds, blinds, tv's) is also easier than unpacking, but has the added benefit of making it appear to your wife that you are indeed trying to be a productive member of society.
Old crap in a new house looks exactly like old crap in a new house. Problem is the money is long gone and it will very likely be a long time before paycheck - house payment = anything more than zero.
That's enough for now.

The strangest part about the whole thing is that I really mis my old house. We lived there for seven years. It was kinda starting to feel like one of the family.

I like turkey. In fact, I wish that it didn't find itself pigeonholed into this one little holiday. I think we should get together as families and cook a big freakin bird at least once a month. Turkey's yummy.

I don't, however, need to eat turkey to remind me of what I'm thankful for. Mirabel and Amber top my list, even when I'm grumpy with them, and I haven't forgotten it yet. I don't plan on forgetting anytime soon. I do, however, plan on adding one more thing to that short list in early March.

That's it for now. Amber's watching Iron Man and right now I'm especially thankful that there's room on the couch for me to sneak in next to her and pretend to watch it as well.

By the way, you guys without kids, your life sucks. Sorry, but it's true.

I suck at this blogging game. Well, it's not so much that I suck, more so it's that I became disenchanted and chose to suck. Blogging for me had become a sales pitch. I'm not big on sales pitches so I quit. I quit posting to my blog. I quit reading the blogs of other photographers. I even quit making my students create their own blogs.

I'm over that now. I've been reading many blogs lately. No photography blogs, just the blogs of friends and family. Mainly Mirablog on which my lovely wife posts things that I already know about my lovely daughter, but I love reading them over and over again, and confessions of a rookie, a blog where an old friend from college rambles on about girl stuff that I probably shouldn't find interesting, but I do. It's mostly because of the rookie's blog that I'm typing this. She's very inspiring in her own way. Thanks Rookie.

I've decided that I have a couple of things to say again. Things that probably aren't important to anyone but me, but the act of typing them seems like a good thing right now. I'll still (well, I'll start to post again) photos, but I think I'll give someone out there (possibly just me) a little insight into what it's like to be me.

So...until I think of something good to say...?

WILD HOGS... Vegas Chapter

I would like to apologize for those Brides and Grooms who had to deal with me last week while Nic and his friends went gallivanting across Utah, Arizonia, and Nevada.

After 4 days and 1223 miles, our local version of Wild Hogs finally returned home safely but not before visiting St. George, Mesquite, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, Bryce Canyon, Zions National Park, and In and Out burger.

Nic is the 'cool' one on the right on the bullet bike while his two friends are sporting Harley Davidsons.

Aren't all you Bride and Grooms thankful for combs and the fact that Nic spruces up a bit before shooting your wedding. YIKES he can be scarey in the morning.

It took Nic a few days for his butt and legs to stop hurting from this adventure. And I think I heard him say he wont be riding his bike for a little while.

Big Little Helper

Mirabel is a big but little helper. We have invested in her own Disney (fake) camera so she can take pictures like Daddy. She will walk around with it and say 'Cheese'. Once she even helped in the studio and climbed up on a stool behind Nic who was taking pictures and started to take her own and told Julie and Andy to say cheese.

She was even invited to a wedding luncheon. That is where this picture comes from. She has big shoes to fill but she definitely is following in Nic's foot steps.

There is something about a bride getting ready, making that transformation, that appeals to
Nic. He usually gets some of his favortie pictures that way. (Just a side note: I am pretty sure the photographer at my wedding would never have thought of that let alone come early to document it)

If you remember Hollee and Bryan are our junk yard Bride and Groom. Nothing about their wedding was normal. While waiting for them to come out of the temple Nic called and said it was raining and was worried about the weather. (Not that it can be controled but still) Later he said it stopped right before she came out and if anyone could pull that off it would be Hollee.

I have officially taken over Nic's blog for the summer. He has been crazy busy with weddings, bridals, engagements, seniors, going to dinners, and family shoots. Not to mention finishing two bedrooms, getting our house ready to sell, building a new one, and watching our lovely all-but-two year old daughter. Here's Dylan. Fremont High is awesome and it was a blast to go back there for Dylan's senior pictures. Dylan's a big lacrosse player, which is a little strange to me because I'm not sure lacrosse was even invented way back when I was in high school. Time Out!!!

Life is good! I'm sure this isn't the kind of thing that most guys think about growing up, I know I didn't, but I never dreamed that I would be so happy being a husband and a father. I have no idea how I ended up with the wife and daughter that I have, but I'm sure that I owe somebody big time for it.
Evidence: Every once in a while I try to send Mirabel to time out. Problem is that it doesn't work the way it's supposed to. As soon as I say "Time Out," she runs (I'm sure she'd be skipping if she could) to her room, grabs her time out chair, drags it out to wherever I am, and sits in it smiling until I crack up laughing or start kissing her. I know I'm not very good at this job, but hey, what's a guy to do?

Waterfalls in the Snow???

Sometimes I forget that we live in Utah and do something silly like play a hike up to a waterfall in early April. Needless to say, there was a lot of snow in our way and we never made it to the waterfall. Andy and Julie took it like champs and looked beautiful anyway. Boston and Bailey

Every once is a while I'm caught off guard, I'm surprised when things don't happen like I expect they will. This shoot was one of those times. Bailey and Boston were only over for about twenty minutes getting some pictures taken while they looked beautiful in their Easter dresses. That part didn't surprise me, in fact, that kind of thing happens quite often around here. What surprised me was the fact that I've been smiling and laughing ever time I think about these girls. They were a blast to shoot. Natural models, comics, and entertainers!!! Can't wait to shoot their Mom's wedding so that I can spend some more time with them!

This past weekend was one of the busiest photo weekends I've ever had. In the space of 4 days I went out on 7 different shoots. My trigger finger is a little tired. I did find a little time in the middle of it all to goof around a bit (ok, I pretty much goofed around the whole time). Here I am cruising around on Hollee's sweet bike while Brian took some awesome photos of me. Brian and Hollee's photos will be coming very, very soon!

I can't believe how little this baby was. I thought for sure she was a preemie or something like that, but apparently she's perfectly normal (maybe even a little larger than normal). Anyway, I was definitely a little worried about breaking her!

Something I Found Funny

You might not think this is funny, but I chuckle every time I think of it. I recently got a new laptop (a super nice Dell XPS dressed in Tuxedo Black) that came wrapped in a plastic bag (to keep it fresh, I think). The funny things were the warnings pictured on the plastic bag. All I can say is please don't put the bag over your head to choke yourself and please don't put the bag on your baby's head and make them crawl around.

Mirabel 18 Months

I took a survey (ok, it was a small survey of just my wife and me) and it turns out that Mirabel is the cutest kid to ever walk the face of the earth. I really fear that sometimes we become a little jaded to her beauty (both inside and out) being around her so much, so I've been taking time the last couple of weeks to consciously and deliberately think about how blessed we truly are. Here she is, as photogenic and willing as ever:

The Brown Family

So, I just noticed that I haven't posted anything in two weeks. Oops! I need a blog that whines like my dog at the door whenever I forget to feed him. Anyway, the Brown family was nice enough to let me follow them around with my camera for a little while. Two of them are headed off to Japan for a couple of years, so everyone had to get dressed up for pictures before they said "Sayonara."

Can I just brag for a second and say that this first picture is one of my favorite family portraits ever?

I know that these things can't be good for you, but what can I say? They're delicious! Thanks to everyone who came to see me at the "Bridal Bliss" fair. It was a great time and thanks to my RockStar and the awesome attitudes of so many people who are so in love, I survived (and had a blast. Also, special thanks to the folks at Hardison Peek Photography and Celebration Point Reception Center for putting up with me all day (the poor suckers got stuck in the booth right next to me).

Peepee in the potty!

I posted this over one my daughter's blog (mirablogs.blogspot.com) but I thought it was too good to not post here as well. Mirabel is currently potty training herself (I thought this was supposed to be hard) and peed in her little potty for the first time last night. The only problem is that I think Amber may have traumatized her for life and she may never go near the potty again. Watch the video and you'll understand.

Pricing Adjustment

What? Huh? Oh yeah, I'm supposed to be posting to this blog, right? I've been busy vacationing in Vegas, catching up on three seasons of "Lost" (which I'm not really impressed with by the way), and mowing my quickly dying lawn and have sort of forgotten about the lovely and talented blog. We shot Jamie's bridals a couple of weeks (sheesh, I know) ago, and I really wanted to post them. It's seriously hard to believe that she's almost a year old. The time is flying so fast and it's so sad to see her grow up before I'm ready. Next week we're going to start sending in college applications for her. The sky was so cool on Sunday evening I just had to pull out the camera and snap a few of her playing in the grass. Did I mention I have the hottest wife and the coolest friends? Well, believe it or not, it's true. I just finished a Master's program and they threw me an awesome surprise party AND at this awesome surprise party they gave me an awesome gift: a ringflash!!! What's a ringflash you say? Well, let me just say it's huge round light that surrounds my camera and is rivaled in brightness only by the sun (and even then only on a really bright day!)! I'm now officially qualified to shoot for the next Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue (well, in my opinion at least). I love my wife. I love my friends. I love my sexy new ringflash.

Ivan and Jenifer

Ahhh, I know I haven't posted anything forever! It's such a busy time for photographers and I think we're all whining right now about how long we go in between blog posts, but it really is hard. I went to school last night for the very last time (for now at least) and am now officially a masters level teacher. I'm so excited to quit doing homework and really focus on photography for a little while. Sooooo, here's Ivan and Jenifer's gorgeous wedding! We shot this just over two weeks ago and it was a blast. Ivan was seriously dancing the entire time. Every time I turned around he's doing some little move. So we have, of course, a million awesome dancing pictures. Jen on the other hand looked absolutely fantastic (Ivan looked pretty decent himself, but hey...)! We really had a blast at this wedding!

It's been a little while since I've done a traditional ceremony, so I was way excited for Jen and Judd. I knew that it was going to be a blast with a few surprises! Judd's friend was a surprise officiator and the ringbearers wore "ring security" shirts. It was awesome!
